Synthesis and study of sorption properties of molecularly
imprinted polymers for quercetin
Abstract
Using acrylamide and
2-(dimethylamino)-ethylmethacrylate as functional monomers molecularly
imprinted polymers for quercetin and corresponding non-imprinted blank polymers
(control polymers) were synthesized. It was shown that the nature of functional
monomer, the functional monomer:template ratio in the pre-polymerization
mixture and the amount of cross-linker varying in the stage of synthesis had an
influence on the sorption properties of molecularly imprinted polymers for
quercetin. Synthesis conditions were optimized by varying the composition of a
pre-polymerization mixture. The sorption properties of the obtained materials
were studied. By the example of structurally related compounds the estimation
of selectivity of a sorbent with the imprints of quercetin was carried out. It
was shown that the acrylamide-based polymer was able to selectively sorb
quercetin, the polymer’s binding sites being mainly of hydrophobic nature.
