Sorption of europium(III) complex with
acetylacetone on hexadecyl silica-gel and hyper cross-linked polystyrene
Abstract
The sorption of europium(III) complex with
acetylacetone was studied on hexadecyl silica-gel (SiO2–C16)
and hyper cross-linked polystyrene. Maximum extraction was observed at pH 5–7
on SiO2–C16 and at pH 4–7 on cross-linked polystyrene.
The partition coefficient is 7∙103 cm3/g
and 102 cm3/g on cross-linked polystyrene and on
silica-gel respectively. Extraction of europium (III) complex is quantitative
on micro column (l = 10 mm length, 3 mm i.d.) packed with cross-linked polystyrene in dynamic conditions (sample volumes 10–50 ml). The
desorption of europium by solutions of nitric acid with different
concentrations was studied. 5 ml 1 mol/L nitric acid was ufficient for
quantitative desorption. The calibration graph spectrophotometric determination
of analyte in the eluate was plotted. The linearity range is 5–25 μg of europium in 10 ml sample.
